Week 1

I arrived in Kansas City last Tuesday afternoon and already have gone to some great restaurants and events.

First off, I'm staying close to the Waldo area (75th and Wornall). It's a great, unique neighborhood. Here is the Waldo tower:

My first eating out was the Kennedy's Bar and Grill in the Waldo area. The best part about this place was the Happy Hour specials. Even though it was a Friday night, their happy hour included $2.50 well drinks and the food special was half price fish 'n chips. So my entire meal was $5.84. Not too bad! The drink was good, the fish 'n chips were delicious. The decor was modern and inviting. Will definitely hit up bingo night on Mondays.

Next up was a visit to the renovated Kauffman stadium for a Royals game. We tried going to the game on Friday night but after 13 minutes, the heavens opened up and it was POURING. So, we tried to stay dry and warm in the concourse but after an hour, we gave up and left. The game ended up being cancelled and we went back the following night for the make-up game.

As you can see, the sky was about to get crazy on us.

Rain delay!

Trying to wait the storm out at Kauffman Stadium.
I went back the next day and had a great time. The weather was hot but the game and stadium made up for it. The new Kauffman Stadium is AMAZING. It's clean and fresh. The seats are nice, the field looks good, the HUGE jumbotron is unbelievable! I was impressed with all the amenities that have been added, especially for the kids. Past the outfield is a mini-baseball diamond for kids to play in, a carousel, a batting cage, and a putt-putt course! SO much to do for families. We also quickly toured the Royals Hall of Fame, which included George Brett's infamous pine tar bat. Will definitely want to take a more in-depth tour soon.

There are a lot of really nice new premium seating areas, which hopefully someday I can try. It all definitely makes me want to work there. Very impressed. It's no wonder MLB chose the stadium to host the All-Star game in 2012.

I'll have to go back and fill in some of the other stops I've made so far. Right now, I'm at the Westport Coffee House.
