A Day at the Park

Monday night we played Bingo at Kennedy's. Jessica won three times, including the grand prize! Congrats!

So close!

We also went on a fun shopping trip at Oak Park mall in (gasp) Overland Park, KS. Note I didn't buy any clothes here. I bought all mine at Missouri stores. :)

So, since I wasn't buying anything, I found other ways to amuse myself...

Uh, no caption needed here

Today, after a very successful interview, I spent some time at the Jacob Loose Park, at 55th and Wornall. This park is beautiful! The park is the site of the Battle of Westport from October 1864 during the Civil War. The land was donated to Kansas City by Jacob Loose's wife, Ella Clark in 1941. It was also KC's first golf country club in 1896.

The park had a lot of benches and everything was in memorial to someone. I liked this one:

Awww...how cute!

It got me thinking how awesome it would be to have something named after you. Like, all of these major roads in KC are named after someone: Wornall, Volker, Troost. Those were people that did something so awesome that they now have a road named after them that is used by thousands of people every day! So I've added to my life goals: do something so awesome that you get a road named Laura Faust Boulevard.

Back to Loose Park, it had a beautiful Rose Garden. This garden was also named after someone: Laura Conyers Smith.

Fountain in the Rose Garden! That's No. 16!

The park also had a gorgeous pond with lots of ducks, geese, HUGE goldfish and...more fountains!

Lots of geese and ducks!
Look how close I could get to them!
Bottoms up!
Look at the size of these goldfish! Like 2 feet long!!
Bruce made a new friend at the park too!

Way to go Bruce!

There was also a cute old guy painting in the park.

The painting looked real good!

So, Loose Park, as I mentioned above, was the site for a major Civil War Battle in 1864. They had a little display about it. Basically, it was the South's last ditch effort to overtake Missouri. Then there was a plaque that said you were standing in the spot where the Confederate General Price stood on the morning on the battle. That's kinda creepy! I'm glad they lost because now we know how awesome the USA is!

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience at the park.
